In 2024 we’re more likely to be suffering from information overload than information scarcity.
At the same time, we feel the need to stay "in the loop": whether it's staying informed of the wider policy context or hitting the “industry knowledge” requirement for your job, the struggle is real. As a policy researcher, I experienced this firsthand and wanted to do something about it.
Introducing policynews.ai . With advances in AI it’s easier than ever to get some help with the finding, filtering and summarising work required to stay up to date. Why settle for information overload when we’ve got the tools to cut through the noise?
Think of it like Netflix, but for policy news. The site uses Machine Learning models to implement Natural Language Processing techniques to crawl live news sources (find), give them an interest rating (filter), and grab the key information (summarise), eventually giving you a curated feed that aligns with your interests.
As of January 2024, the model is set to filter government news content based on my policy interests. This means it’s focused primarily on domestic policy, with an emphasis on employment, welfare, skills, tax, and the economy. With over a dozen different news sources across local and national government and whitehall think tanks, the system already helps me cut through the noise, but the real magic happens when you join in.
By using policynews.ai, you become an integral part of refining the experience for everyone. Every click, every "like" helps fine-tune the machine learning model. It will learn what is most interesting to the policy community and start to bring those stories to the top. And yes, the list of news sources will expand, and I'm hoping to tailor this to individual users' preferences. Watch this space.
If this resonates with you, please bookmark, like and share with friends and colleagues, and we can make everyone’s experience of staying up-to-date in policy more engaging and less like hard work.
